Gentle Tooth Extraction: Ensuring Comfort and Care
While third molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth, often necessitate extraction, other teeth may also require removal due to various complications. Dr. Mohamed Elnahass may recommend tooth extraction if any of the following issues arise:
- Impacted tooth: A tooth trapped beneath the bone or gums, unable to emerge properly.
- Crowding or small mouth: Emerging teeth may cause shifting or cracking of adjacent teeth due to limited space.
- Decay or infection: Extreme decay or infection that cannot be resolved with fillings or root canal treatment may necessitate extraction.
During your consultation, we’ll assess your situation and discuss whether tooth extraction is the most appropriate course of action. To ensure your comfort during the procedure, we recommend sedation dentistry.
Following the extraction, it’s essential to take proper care to promote healing and minimize discomfort. You’ll need to arrange for transportation home after the procedure and rest with your head elevated to reduce bleeding. We’ll provide gauze to control bleeding, and it’s important to replace it as needed. Pain medication and ice packs can help manage any discomfort and swelling.
In the days following the extraction, stick to a soft food diet and avoid smoking or using a straw, as these actions can impede clotting and disrupt healing. If bleeding persists beyond 24 hours or if you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to contact our office promptly.
